Getting to know – Helen Nugent at affilinet

Helen_120x120Helen Nugent has been with affilinet since the business launched in the UK in 2005 and has played a key role in the growth of our business. She has been in the affiliate industry for over 8 years and so many of you will probably already know her well 🙂 We find out a bit more about Helz and what she’s been up to recently…

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Adventurous, caring, light-weight!

You’ve been working in the industry for over 8 years now. What is the best piece of advice you can offer to advertisers looking to optimise their affiliate marketing activities?
Don’t be afraid to trial opportunities that your Account Managers present to you. Our extremely experienced team will only pursue options which fit well with your program. If it doesn’t work then you can just switch it off. And also the best thing to do to integrate your activity in line with both on and offline activities, plan it in with the rest of your strategy to get extra boosts in line with your seasonality.

You recently went to Sedo Holdings HQ in Boston… what was the best thing you did in your free time?
Boston’s such a great city, there’s so much to see. I did the touristy bus and boat trips and went to the MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) where there are mind blowing enormous glass installations by Chihuly.

You’ve been at affilinet since it launched in the UK over 6 years ago, how has the business developed in that time?
For the UK, we’ve grown from 4 – 18 staff and from 1 to 134 clients, so the numbers speak for themselves. It’s really great to see hard work pay off and we have had some great new advertisers joining the network recently, including DFS and LandRover. Alongside our UK growth we now operate across 7 European markets and collectively we have over 500,000 partners.

What’s the most exciting development you’ve seen in the affiliate market over the years?
Affiliate marketing has changed so much over the last 12 years. Simply for it to become an essential part of blue chips companies marketing mix is a great development in itself. More recent exciting developments include CPA mobile marketing and the concept of retargeting customers by showing ads relevant to a users previous shopping searches just shows how technically dynamic affiliate marketing can be.

SATC or Twilight?
SATC -I think that’s more my era. Shoes, bags and clothes beat R-Patz and indecisive Bella hands down.

Affilinet and clients had a lot of success at this year’s A4U Awards, what was the highlight of the evening for you?
I’m so proud of the team and what was achieved at this year’s A4U Awards. After many years of such hard work its fantastic to be recognised. Winning Best Publisher Support team was definitely a highlight and to support Debenhams in winning its award was also a great achievement.

What was the last thing you bought online?
I recently bought tickets to See Friendly Fires at Brixton Academy. After seeing them at a small gig in Boston I’ll be back to see them again with a big group of friends, they’re amazing live.
