Getting to know…Karen Sweere at affilinet

Always bubbly and good-humoured, Karen Sweere graces the affilinet London office with her presence three days a week as part of her role as International Account Director. We sit down with Karen and find out more about her position at affilinet, her best travel tips as well as the hot gadgets on her wishlist!

You joined affilinet Netherlands as Key Account Manager in April 2010. Have there been any significant changes since you started?
When I joined affilinet the team consisted of 3 people. The Dutch team has grown to almost 20 colleagues in 2 offices. The market has changed significantly in the Netherlands over the past few years. Performance marketing is now an important part of the marketing mix in organisations and the industry has really tightened up.

You became International Account Director working across Europe on the Thomas Cook account nearly 4 months ago now. What are you keen to achieve for this program?
My goal is to create, together with Thomas Cook and the affilinet account team, a truly International Thomas Cook partner program where we work with partners across countries and work to create a successful partnership between the partners and Thomas Cook.

This new position involves working from the affilinet London office for three days each week and the Dutch office for the rest of the week. Have you picked up any flying tips considering you’re ‘up in the air’ so often?
Travel light – sounds very easy however it is a struggle ever week – every outfit deserves a pair of shoes.

Describe yourself in three words.
Workaholic, Impatient, Goal focused (that’s one right?)

What do you enjoy about working on the travel vertical of online advertising?
I love to travel myself and working in this vertical means working on a product which gives me energy.

We know you’re a fan of gadgets. What device could you not live without and are there any on your wish list?
At the moment there are 2 items on my wish list.
–  Nest – this is a thermostat which can be controlled by iPhone – how easy for my travelling and make sure my house is on the right temperature when I’m back home
–  New iPhone – like a  lot of people I’m waiting on a new iPhone.

You spent some time in university here in England. How was that experience?
In 2004 I moved to Bristol to spend a year at UWE. It was an amazing time and I had the opportunity to meet great people. Some opinions about the English are true, though some aren’t.

Finally, what is something that not a lot of people know about you?
Addicted to diversity of TV series like Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, CSI, Bones, White Collar and Touch.
