Getting to know Katie Mulvaney, Consultant at affilinet

KatieYou joined affilinet a while back as Consultant. Tell us a bit about your role here.
My role here involves consulting with new clients about the affiliate marketing channel and the opportunities that this channel has to offer their businesses.  It’s a role that involves a high level of commercial awareness and a deep understanding of multiple industries e.g. retail, travel and finance.


How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Loyal, friendly, outgoing.

What advice would you offer to an advertiser looking to start promoting their business through affiliate marketing and what do you think are the main strengths of the channel?
My first bit of advice would be to give me a call, joke! I think it’s important for advertisers to educate themselves as much as possible. It can be quite a tricky industry to get your head around, but a basic understanding can really help when trying to decide whether affiliate marketing is right for your brand.  Having clear objectives is also useful – what exactly do you want to achieve through affiliate marketing?

I think a key strength of affiliate marketing is the incremental sales that can be driven through the channel. Affiliate marketing gives advertisers the opportunity to promote their products to vast audiences who may not have been aware of them or who had no intention of purchasing from them previously. Another key strength is that minimal investment is required as it’s a performance based marketing channel so advertisers only pay for proven results.

What attracted you to the industry?
I come from a marketing background and have always maintained a particular interest in digital marketing.  The affiliate industry in particular is a very sociable industry with an enormous amount of opportunity and this is something that I found really attractive.  I enjoy meeting new clients and publishers at different industry events and seminars. The workload is challenging but very rewarding – it’s a very work hard play hard type of industry!

How have you found your first couple of months within affilinet? Was it what you expected? Is there anything that has surprised you?
I have really enjoyed my first couple of months at affilinet. The company has been going through some really exciting changes and it’s been great to be involved with that. The team I work with are extremely supportive, hardworking and made me feel a part of the team from day one.  I think the only thing that’s surprised me is that I actually enjoy coming to work in the morning!

What was the last thing you bought online?
Shoes – I have a problem.

How have you found settling into life in London compared to Dublin where you grew up? Do you have any favourite shopping spots?
Settling into London has been an interesting experience compared to Dublin. People move here at a much faster pace but I think I’ve adapted well!  I’ve grown to really love it and I can’t imagine going home anytime soon. I have no favourite shopping spots yet. I do love going for walks on Southbank though!
