A day in the life of Ami Spencer, Head of Affiliates at vouchercloud

I’m responsible for growing and managing the UK affiliate team at vouchercloud.com. This includes increasing online and app revenue streams, leading a team of 6 and overseeing international activity. Through developing and managing key client relationships, I must ensure that vouchercloud remains a leader in mobile and affiliate marketing.

No day is the same for me. Being based in Bristol means that I travel to London, usually on a weekly basis so that I can keep in touch with our partners and networks. Face to face meetings are always more productive. When I’m based in our Bristol office my day is usually broken down by a series of strategy and revenue focused meetings and catching up with the account management team. It’s also vital for me to have an active understanding of new developments throughout the business to allow a flexible affiliate proposition.

I have to say the people at vouchercloud really do make the job. There is a fantastic team behind the scene who are incredibly dedicated and passionate about what they do.  I’m very proud to be part of vouchercloud as I’ve seen it grow over the years. When I first started there were about 20 people who were prepared to put the hard graft in to make it work. Now we have UK and international offices, Vodafone backing and are Europe’s No.1 mobile voucher app. It really is a huge achievement and I think that’s what I’m most excited about, our growth and drive to be the best.

Affiliate marketing is one of the most transparent and accountable channels which allows us to set realistic yet achievable goals. Generating increased revenue is obviously the primarily objective for most parties; however brands also judge the industry on its ability to drive new customers, increase AOV and incremental sales.

I believe there is still a need to educate people on the value of voucher sites and the growth they enable. The challenge of mobile continues to drive the industry, and it’s the prospect of online and offline teams coming together in order to run truly multichannel campaigns which motivates me.
This is a great industry and you need to be able to enjoy it. Drive and passion go along way so wanting to succeed and be recognised is important if you want to work in this industry. It’s fast pace and constant tech development mean that if you want to be ahead of the game you must grow with it and research as you work. Lay your eyes on as many e-commerce sites as possible- figure out why they work well, and what they do differently. Networking events and expo’s are also a key way to keep informed of changes in the industry.
