A Day in the Life of Joel Tobias, Head of Business Development & General Manager at NetVoucherCodes.co.uk

Anyone that knows me will know how passionate I am about our company NetVoucherCodes.co.uk and what we do every day, to the point where I actually get excited about getting up for work. I love how innovative, dedicated and tenacious the entire team is.  Seriously, it’s mind blowing.  Every day I come in and there’s 10 new ideas bouncing around the management group and by 5 o clock half of them are live. I love that.

I started working for an employee reward and loyalty provider in 2007, before I had graduated from Uni. I can’t even tell you how I fell into it; it’s not interesting enough to talk about at any rate. At the time there were 3 people and me, and my job was to build up their merchant voucher offering, pretty much from scratch.  I learned a lot during 4 and a bit years I can tell you that much!

Today, as part of our parent company 4DX Media Ltd.’s management team, I’m responsible for establishing, growing and managing the NetVoucherCodes.co.uk London office and team, who focus specifically on Partnership Account Management, Account Development and Affiliate management. I am also responsible for developing new strategic, multi-channel and B2B partnerships in addition to assisting with product development & strategy. Basically I do over 100 jobs at once.

The ability to multi task and realign your focus at the drop of a hat is crucial for getting the job done.  I also believe that it’s important to combine a willingness and ability to learn new things with a willingness and ability to offer inspiration – these are two things that are typically mutually exclusive to certain personalities, but I try and do both as best I can.

I could give you a fluffy answer about the most useful metrics and KPIs for measuring success but let’s be honest….If you make more money today than you did yesterday, after costs, then your business is growing, right? Sure there are many, many other metrics to track whether you are on the right path such as traffic levels, click through rates and membership volumes but that’s all for nothing if you’re not monetising it all.

My advice for people who want to work in the digital industry is to get out whilst you can!! Just kidding; be prepared for an environment that is ever developing, fast paced and ultra-competitive.  You certainly can’t sit still at any time but in return you’ll get to work alongside bright and exciting people bursting with creativity.
