For our latest addition in our publisher focus series, I decided to sit down with Mary Gleeson, Business Development Manager at Stylight to find out what the Stylight site involves and its unique offering in the market. Find out more below.
What does your role involve at Stylight? What is your favourite part of your current role?
I’m responsible for building & expanding the UK market, so I work to identify strategic business opportunities to support that growth. I spend a lot of my time meeting and speaking with relevant partner shops to collaborate with us, whilst maintaining & strengthening my existing portfolio of shops.
I love meeting my clients and establishing successful business partnerships. It is a fast paced and stimulating environment in the UK office. There is a lot of autonomy in the role itself and this level of responsibility is extremely motivating for me. Stylight really encourages innovation and welcomes new ideas that can drive the business forward. No day is ever the same and this dynamic really excites me! We’re currently launching a new vertical – Home & Living in the UK, so I’ve been kept on my toes recently. I like to be challenged!
Tell us a bit about Stylight and its unique offering in the market?
Stylight is a fashion focused platform that allows customers to gain inspiration and shop globally at any time. We are Europe’s leading fashion aggregator and live in 15 countries globally. Given our global reach and local knowledge, we can introduce our partner shops to customers in new territories, where they might not have leading brand presence. ‘Global Inspiration, Local Commerce’ -our localized shopping possibilities enable smart purchase decisions.
What does the Stylight site involve? What inspired the site?
Stylight helps its users to evolve their style through the power of shop able inspiration, making it easy to know what to buy and how to style it. The site allows you to discover the latest trends and shop globally in just one click from over 350 stores and 6000 brands. Stylight enables users worldwide to evolve their own fashionable and vibrant style.
It all started with four students from Munich who wanted to make the fashion landscape a little bit more accessible for everyone. Stylight was first founded back in 2008. The brainchild’s behind the business; Max-Josef Meier, Sebastian Schuon, Benjamin Günther and Anselm Bauer devised a simple fashion search tool for an entrepreneurship program. People loved it and so the story began.
How often do you post content on your site?

How did you grow your audience?
We work with over 350 stores and 6000 brands, whom our users come to seek style inspiration from. In addition, we have an incredible brand marketing team, and our addictive content is shaped and influenced by trends from all around the globe. The launch of our magazine has further driven our audience. We first launched the magazine in Germany back in January 2015, it has since been rolled out to the US and we expect to have the magazine here in the UK quite soon. Stay tuned!
What is the one piece of advice you would give to someone who wants to get into the same industry?
Stay informed. Business development is a dynamic industry, so if you want to stay relevant, you must constantly evolve with it
Finally… what was the last thing you purchased online?
My travel visa for Shanghai!
